We all hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. As you enjoy time with family and friends, we hope you reflect on the all the things you are grateful for this year. We are more than thankful for all of our customers. And just like you, we too will be enjoying time with our families this week. Our offices will be closed Thursday and Friday (November 22 and 23, 2018). Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Fontis Water! But before we go, here are some fun facts to impress family and friends.

Turkey Day Trivia

First. did you know our national holiday actually stems from the feast held in the autumn of 1621?

It is true, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast. That feast is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. However, for more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. In 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, Thanksgiving Day was proclaimed by President Abraham Lincoln.

Taste of Smyrna this Weekend

This Saturday is one of our favorite’s, it is the Taste of Smyrna.

Taste of Smyrna “Festival of Delectable”

Taste of Smyrna “Festival of Delectable,” will take place this Saturday September 15th from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on the beautiful Village Green in downtown Smyrna.

Admission is free and samples can be purchased for $1 to $4 dollars. Attendees can enjoy great tasting food from more than 30 vendors. A few include, Atkins Park Restaurant and Bar, Stockyard Burgers & Bones, Taco Mac, Marlow’s Tavern and Copeland’s. Kenny’s Great Pies will also be there to add a great ending to your tastings.

 

There will be acoustic music from Scott Thompson throughout the day. The Main Stage entertainment will culminate with a concert at 7:00 PM. There will also be an enormous Kids Zone with interactive inflatables.

Labor Day Weekend Fun in Atlanta

It is Labor Day weekend in Atlanta and honestly, you could not ask for more to do in our great city. From parades to football, there is something for everyone this last official weekend of summer.

Dragon Con

The 2018 Dragon Con has arrived in Atlanta this weekend. Yes, the city might look a bit different as thousands descend upon the streets of our town dressed as super heroes, Star Wars characters, wizards, warlocks, and the list goes on!

In case you don’t know how Dragon Con started, here are the basic facts. Pat Henry, David Cody, John Bunnell and Robert Dennis all chipped in $300, rounded out with a few of their friends planned the first Dragon Con for the fall of 1987.

The idea was to combine fandoms and genres into a single convention for fans who, like them, were interested in different things. In the early going, that meant bringing a science fiction convention and gaming convention together in the same hotel. Some 1,200 fans turned out to meet science fiction luminaries Michael Moorcock and Robert Asprin and gaming royalty Richard Garriott and Gary Gygax. Moorcock and his longtime friend Eric Bloom, lead singer for Blue Oyster Cult, jammed on stage. The Atlanta Radio Theater broadcast a live performance of H.P. Lovecraft’s Call of Cthulhu from the con. In almost every respect, the show was a smash and the attendance grows every year.

Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game

Labor Day may be the end of summer, but it’s also the beginning of college football season. This weekend at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Auburn Tigers will take on the Washington Huskies. The game begins at 3:30 ET, but fans can enjoy all kinds of events before the game, including Fan Fare!

Not into fighting the crowds or the traffic? A weekend on the couch sounds great to us too! What could be better than watching your favorite team in your comfy clothes. We like that idea too, and remember there is also the US Open and the Braves! No matter where your plans take you, stay safe and stay hydrated with Fontis Water! Kennesaw Grand Prix 5K Race Series

Fontis Water is proud to be the official water sponsor of the Kennesaw Grand Prix Race series. Three 5K races have taken place and there are still three more for you to participate in this year.

Hero Run

The next race is the Hero Run. The race will take place in downtown Kennesaw on August 4. Thanks to the 1300 runners who ran in last year’s race, $5,000 dollars was donated to each of these organizations: Wounded Warrior Project, KSU’s veterans scholarship fund and Disabled American Veterans, plus $1,000 to Kennesaw’s Veterans Luncheon. That is more than $100,000 to veteran charities in eight years.

Great Locomotive Chase 5K

This race will take place Saturday, September 29. Monies from this race go to support the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History, an integral part of the Kennesaw community.

Garden Gallup 5K

This super fun, fall race takes place at Smith-Gilbert Gardens. The gardens are located at 2382 Pine Mountain Road in Kennesaw. Dress up, get a cool long-sleeve shirt and celebrate fall! All for a great cause. Plus, all runners enjoy free admission on Saturday, October 27 at the Gardens – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – just bring your race bib.

So make your plans now to run these last three races. The 5K runs are part of the Fit City Kennesaw initiative which encourages residents to become more active and engage in wellness-related activities. And remember, there will be plenty of refreshing Fontis Water on hand!
